Honeymoon Recap: Pompeii

Is it Wednesday already? I am not complaining but June is going by too fast already.
Today I am taking you on a fascinating journey to the ancient city of Pompeii. This was a def highlight of our honeymoon trip and if you are planning a trip to Italy, is a must see!

If you missed my recap so far check it out here, here, and here!

Now on to Pompeii!
Naples was our first port of call on our cruise and we had pre-booked a private excursion to Pompeii and the Amalfi Cost. We met our amazing tour guide outside the harbor and jetted off in her Fiat SUV (they have those in Europe!). I just had to split these two amazing expedition into two posts because we took a million pictures and I love all of them.

Enjoy!

This region of Italy is perfect for growing citrus and man these babies were huge and delish!

The entrance in to ancient Pompeii
When Pompeii was a thriving city, the ocean came all the way up to brick wall. The land has since filled in due to Mt. Vesuvius' eruptions.
Our amazing semi retired tour guide. He spoke 7 languages and was deemed the master of Pompeii.
This tour was simply amazing. Because our tour guide was so well respected, he was allowed on the grounds prior to opening for the day. It was like we had the whole city to ourselves, a very rare experience.

So this was day 4 for us and Reid and I really started to miss our pups. We started taking pics of all the random dogs we found. This friendly guy lived in Pompeii and greeted it's guest with tail wags and kisses!

Pretty crazy right?

Our tour guide explained that since Pompeii was a port city and a major market for travelers and sea men, many of it's visitors did not speak the native language. Universal signs became very important around they city and the most abundant were about brothels... Clearly men at sea only had one thing on their mind when they got into port.

I had to add this picture because it amazes me how advanced Pompeii was. This is an original plumbing pipe!

The money shot of Mt. Vesuvius.
Next week, I promise to share our fabulous trip down the Amalfi Coast - you won't want to miss this one!

Much love!

  4. this looks absolutely amazing. I am not sure if I could go to Pompeii - i know that probably sounds selfish, but I am such an emotional wreck it would upset me so much - just like going to titanic or holocaust museums. ok, not the same thing but you know what i mean.
