We all know I had a blast at High Point market last week.
One of my main reasons for going was to spot market trends in lighting and home accessories for the upcoming year. I can say with confidence that gold tones were out in abundance and are here to stay. It is most definitely NOT your polished brass from yesteryear, but shades of golds that will knock your socks off.
 Just simply stunning.

Every showroom we went into, my eye automatically gravitated to the gold fixtures. Some sleek and  modern, some curly and traditional but most had this great sense of balance between the two extreams. What I found to be the most interesting was the use of quatrefoils in so many designs. It seems only fitting that this be a current design trend. We see the quatrefoil inspire amazing jewelry pieces - why not mirrors, lamps and lighting?

Lighting Favs!

Happy Wednesday loves! 

Reid and I are in a holding pattern on our departure for the Outer Banks of North Carolina due to the arrival of the first big storm of the season....Arthur. We were planning on taking off this afternoon but with the bad weather looming, we are going to make a game time decision later this afternoon. Ugh, epic fail.

In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to share a glimpse of what I do everyday at work. One of my responsibilities at my company is to handle all of the lighting selections for our local showrooms. This is one of my favorite aspects of my job, as I am allowed full creative authority on new display lighting.  

People ask me all the time, 

"What is your favorite light fixture?" 

"What is your go to lighting brand?"

"What lights are in style right now?"

There are no easy answers to any of the above questions and this is the reason I love lighting so much. 

Lighting is very personal and I have found people have very specific opinions on what they like and what they don't like. I love the "wow" moment when you just know that a light is perfect for your space. The the main challenge in designing displays is trying to capture everyone's style preference in a single showroom and moving past my own taste. 

Lighting manufactures have really stepped up their game this year with their product offerings. There are so many fun trends in lighting at the moment and am loving every single one.

Lighting is like the jewelry of your home and can turn any ordinary space in to an extraordinary one with the change of a fixture.

Commitment issues.... Lighting

Y'all, I must confess....

I was having major commitment issues on selecting lighting for our home. I love helping associates and clients select their dream lighting but when it came time to do it for myself, I couldn't do it. When we bought our home, the most exciting part for me was the potential to order new lights....but I just could not commit to anything! I get asked all the time "what light fixtures do you have in your house? They must be amazing!" NO, the sad reality is that most of my light fixtures are circa 1990 and ugly worn brass because I could not make my mind up! UGH

I don't know how many light fixtures I sent to Reid before we landed on the design below. Honestly, I think he gave in because he was tired of me being so indecisive and just wanted me to stop talking about it.... hmmmm what a clever husband!

Anywho, the lights are all in and I have the electricians scheduled for Thursday to hang these gems! I think my selections really embody the look I was trying to achieve:

 Phew,  glad my lighting commitment issues can be put to rest and I am sooooo ready to see these babies installed! I am dying to know what you think and don't worry, I will def post a before and after next week to give you the full affect.
