a beach weekend in pictures!

Hey y'all!

 I hope everyone had a safe and relaxing holiday weekend.

Well, we made it through the storm and had a fantastic weekend in Corolla, North Carolina with the family. The weather was great, besides the hurricane, and the company was even better!

{fun in the sun}

Considering we were in the middle of a category two hurricane, we actually had amazing weather at the beach. We sat out on the beach until 5 or so on Thursday and then were back out there by noon on Friday. Saturday was perfect for sunbathing, reading and napping on the beach. What else could a girl ask for?

I just love this picture of Sophie flying her kite!
The boys had a great time keeping busy with a friendly game of bocce ball...
which was great for me because I needed a nap!
Why are tomato sandwiches always better while eaten on the beach?

 {braving the storm}

Arthur came and went Thursday night through very early Friday morning. We kept busy with plenty of puzzles, food, drinks and fun!
Can you believe that we put together 4 puzzles over the long weekend?
"Seriously, how are we missing one piece?" Don't worry, we found it the next morning.
It would not be a vacation without a little Phase 10!
Reid whipped up a great boil for the family to enjoy on our night in.
He also made a huge batch of Ashley's rum punch, which kept him occupied for most of the night!

Hah! This was our hurricane survival kit....
As you can see, we were super prepared for the storm!

{the morning after Arthur}

The house awoke very early after a long night. Most of us got terrible sleep due to Arthur's wind and rain beating down on our beach house, but all was safe and we were mighty thankful for that. After breakfast and some more puzzles, Reid and I took to the beach to see what Arthur was up to all night.

Red flags were definitely up all day due to the rip currents.

Can you believe all the people that were on the beach already? It was only 10am!
Friday turned into a beautiful day on the beach. The wind and the sea were a bit feisty but we made the most of this glorious weather!

{Happy 4th!}

Reid and I wish you all a very happy summer. Filled with fun, sun and much love! We feel so lucky to have such amazing family and friends that surround us and grace us with their love and patience every day. I always come back from family vacations feeling incredibly loved and lucky to have the husband, family and friends that I do.

A special thanks to Biana and Meghan for hosting their Weekending link up!

Happy 4th!

Happy 4th of July y'all!
via
 Reid and I made the tough decision on Thursday morning to brave the hurricane and head down to Corolla. We had a great day out on beach yesterday and made it through the category 2 storm last night with little sleep (beach houses are so loud!). Today the whole family is bunkered up with puzzles, plenty of wine, cocktails and limeade, Cards Against Humanity for the adults and James Bond movies for all while we wait out for aftermath of Arthur to pass. The sun is trying to peak out over the ocean and I have a feeling that we will at least be out in the pool within a couple of hours!

Reid and I wish you and your family a very happy and safe 4th! Take a moment today to remember why we celebrate this tremendous holiday and give a cheers to the Red, White and Blue!

I can't wait to share with you all the pictures from our trip on Monday. In the meantime, make sure to follow along on Instagram!

Till Monday loves!

June Favorites

Hi everyone! Ashley here today, and Happy Friday! Sike. I know today is Thursday but it sure does feel like Friday because I don't have to work tomorrow! Thank goodness. Can you believe it is already July? I feel like June totally creeped by us. I don't know about you, but I am already ready for the fall! Summers in South Carolina can get pretty miserable with the heat, and I've already had enough! Although June came and went pretty quickly, there were a few moments, products, and happenings that stood out to me.

{This Lip Combo}
Bite Beauty Products have easily topped my list of favorite beauty products. I hadn't really tried many of them until a few months ago, and I am extremely impressed. Bite products are made without any parabens or sulfates, and are made up of food-grade ingredients that are safe to eat. I have been loving layering the two of these together. It gives the most beautiful peachy, coral, nude if that makes sense. Perfect for summer!

{These Scents}
June was all about Burberry perfumes. I often struggle with finding the perfect perfume. I love floral and fruity scents, but I also want it to be mature. Finding the right balance can be challenging, but I think I've successfully found two perfumes that I can switch back and forth to. The first one, Burberry Body, is the perfect Spring and Summer scent. Burberry Original is the everyday, all year-long scent that I've been gravitating towards to as well. I like having two perfumes that I can go back and forth with and not get tired of too easily.

{Hempz Lotion}

This should not be news to you that this is on the favorites list! Although this has been a favorite for some time now, I am especially loving it this summer. This herbal whipped body creme provides a ton of moisture without feeling too greasy. It has an amazing scent of natural hemp seed oil, apples and almonds.

{Back Porch Dinners}
As most of you know, Andrew and I are temporarily living with a coworker of mine while we build our house. The timing was right, and we couldn't ask for a better housemate! However, some of our close friends (who happen to live on the same street as us currently) are on a cruise to Russia (!) right now, so they graciously asked us if we would like to house-sit for the two weeks they are vacationing. We gladly accepted the responsibility, but have sure enjoyed the amenities it comes along with! Especially this back porch and back yard. I forgot to take a picture of dinner, but they have a Green Egg that Andrew has enjoyed using! They also have a hot tub that I can't wait to get into this weekend...unless the heat stops me!

Of course, I had to add this one but it is of the front of the house. The beautiful girls who live here are very festive in their white, red and blue...and you can't forget the famous joggling board!

{Offer Accepted}
Y'all, this is the one that topped the charts this month. Andrew and I are about to embark on a journey that we will never forget. We put an offer on this lot, and within a day...it was ours! I don't want to jinx it or start posting a lot about the house because we haven't closed on the lot yet or signed the contract with the builder, but we are getting very close! Andrew and I take nightly walks (again, across the street from where we currently live), so it's been nice to visit our future home!

{Chicago}
I've already dedicated an entire post about our recent trip, but it was definitely worth mentioning again! My first trip (Andrew's second) to the windy city will be one that we won't forget. We are thankful to have sweet friends to let us visit, and we hope to go back in the future!

{Weekend in Atlanta}
I can not tell you how much I miss these sweet friends. Andrew and I lived in Atlanta, Georgia for a few years and were fortunate to have an amazing group of friends. We still keep in touch, but two of these ladies are now doctors and with school and part of the group moving away, it's far and few that we get to spend quality time with them. Andrew and I went up on a Friday and spent the entire weekend with this group of friends. We reminisced and ate at some of our favorite pastime restaurants, celebrated Hannah and Chris (and baby Lawson), and picked out fabric and furniture for our new home. We sure do miss Atlanta, but more importantly, we miss you, sweet, sweet friends.

{The Pool}
Y'all, I.am.pale. End of story. I have been so busy with traveling and work that I haven't had a chance to get some much needed Vitamin D. After work last Saturday, I ran out the door, put on my bathing suit (that was a site in itself), and hurried off to the pool. I am hoping to spend some of my time at the pool this weekend, along with many times to come! Excuse the Insta photo, but somehow I deleted the actual picture on my camera roll. Be sure to follow me on Instagram! @ashleyceck.

I hope everyone has a Happy Fourth of July spending time with family, friends and loved ones. Safe travels to all of those traveling on this long weekend. Thank God for the stars and stripes, and God Bless America! #iamproudtobeanamerican

xoxo,
Ashley

Lighting Favs!

Happy Wednesday loves!

Reid and I are in a holding pattern on our departure for the Outer Banks of North Carolina due to the arrival of the first big storm of the season....Arthur. We were planning on taking off this afternoon but with the bad weather looming, we are going to make a game time decision later this afternoon. Ugh, epic fail.

In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to share a glimpse of what I do everyday at work. One of my responsibilities at my company is to handle all of the lighting selections for our local showrooms. This is one of my favorite aspects of my job, as I am allowed full creative authority on new display lighting.

People ask me all the time,
"What is your favorite light fixture?"
"What is your go to lighting brand?"
"What lights are in style right now?"

There are no easy answers to any of the above questions and this is the reason I love lighting so much.

Lighting is very personal and I have found people have very specific opinions on what they like and what they don't like. I love the "wow" moment when you just know that a light is perfect for your space. The the main challenge in designing displays is trying to capture everyone's style preference in a single showroom and moving past my own taste.

Lighting manufactures have really stepped up their game this year with their product offerings. There are so many fun trends in lighting at the moment and am loving every single one.

These are just a few of my favorites!
two toned light fixtures
modern crystal
nautical meet, industrial
classic chic
gold tones are coming back!

The fixtures below are the ones that kept catching my eye as I flipping through the many catalogs in my office. I wish I had a house big enough to use every single one in some capacity!

Lighting Favs July 2014

Lighting is like the jewelry of your home and can turn any ordinary space in to an extraordinary one with the change of a fixture.

Which one is your favorite?

Impromptu Backyard Cookout

Hey Loves!

 Long time, no chat huh?

Last week was a little cra cra... I came down with a minor sinus infection on Tuesday/Wednesday which I may or may not have been really just a little dramatic about. I thought it was going to be a lot worse than it ended up being and I just did not have time to be sick last week. I just took a ton of over the counter meds and flushed that nasty bug out of my system just in time for my company's semi annual physical inventory.

I honestly don't mind inventory. It is a great time to work with awesome associates from other parts of our business. So, I happily gave Thursday, all day Friday, and Saturday morning to the enterprise but you better believe that I took full advantage of what was left of my weekend.

 Reid's parents were in town briefly this weekend, so why not throw an impromptu backyard cookout?

My parents, my Aunt Tricia, my brother, SIL, and their kids, our other "dink" friends Anna and Jeremy and Reid's parents enjoyed the amazing weather, delicious food and even better company.

Enjoy the pics below of our fun event!

Wine spritzer bar anyone?
"Who you looking at?"
Uncle Reid and Libbie wore coordinating outfits and it made mt heart swoon.

This kid is a natural!

Reid and I are off to the Outerbanks tomorrow with the fam for the rest of the week! Can't wait to bring you all along on the adventure!
